About the tour: The city of the hundred churches
The guided tour of Lucca begins with a pleasant stroll along its famous city walls, built in the sixteenth century and converted into a park in the nineteenth century. From there you can admire the old town where stand the Guinigi Tower, which is a peculiar tower with trees on top, and the Tower of the Hours. After entering the grid of streets in the center, you can visit the Duomo, which contains masterpieces by Nicola Pisano, Jacopo della Quercia and Tintoretto, as well as the famous Volto Santo (Holy Face) and the beautiful tomb of Ilaria del Carretto. Continuing the visit, you can see the church of San Michele in Foro, which is located on the site of the ancient Forum of the Roman city, and then, continuing along Via Fillungo, which is the most famous street in the center of Lucca, you will arrive at the Basilica of San Frediano, one of the oldest religious buildings in the city. Continuing on Via Fillungo, you arrive at the spectacular Piazza Anfiteatro and from this point visitors step to Piazza Napoleone, also known as Piazza Grande, completely rearranged during the nineteenth century in a Parisian style.
