About the tour
City tour of Certaldo, medieval town and homeland of the famous Italian poet Boccaccio. Meet your local guide in Piazza Boccaccio (Certaldo Basso) valley terminus of the funicular to Certaldo Alto, a charming medieval town surrounded by walls remained virtually unchanged over time. Crossing the medieval town you come to the Palazzo Pretorio (Praetorian Palace), built in the thirteenth century, which contains numerous coats of arms and some important paintings dating from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The tour continues with a stop to the Romanesque church of SS. Jacopo and Filippo, where the Blessed Giulia Della Rena and Boccaccio were buried, and finally with a visit to the tower house, birthplace of the poet, located in a panoramic location that offers a beautiful view over Elsa valley.
