About the tour
To discover the masterpieces preserved in the palaces and religious buildings of Siena, you should arrange with your guide a museum tour that satisfies your curiosities. It is recommended a visit to the Cathedral Museum Complex, which includes the interior of the cathedral, the crypt with its frescoes of the thirteenth century, the baptistery with baptismal font of the fifteenth century by Jacopo della Quercia, Donatello and Ghiberti, the Museo dell’Opera with the window and the Majesty by Duccio da Buoninsegna. From here, you can also access the “Facciatone” of the Cathedral from which you can admire a beautiful view over the rooftops of the city.
Otherwise you can plan your visit to Santa Maria della Scala, one of the oldest hospitals in Europe which houses in its interior a permanent museum and numerous temporary exhibitions. Another option is represented by National Art Gallery, with its important collection of masterpieces of Sienese painting of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries by painters such as Duccio, Simone Martini, Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti, Giovanni di Paolo, Domenico Beccafumi.
