Volterra: a day with the Etruscans
This visit aims to illustrate the Etruscan remains of Volterra. The Etruscans were the most important pre-Roman civilization in Italy and they exerted a considerable influence on the development of mighty Rome. The visit includes stops at the most interesting Etruscan sites of Volterra, which was an important city of the Etruscan Federation, called “Lucumonia”. Volterra still retains visible sections of the walls of the Etruscan age and the ancient Porta all’Arco, dating back to the fourth century BC. After the tour in the city center, the visit continues to the Guarnacci Archaeological Museum, with explanations designed specifically for families and children, including the youngest, who otherwise are often unwilling to be interested in this kind of subjects.
