About the tour
The name of the town means “good shelter” because in the Middle Ages, due to its strategic location, Buonconvento became an important shelter for pilgrims going to Rome. After meeting your fully licensed local tourist guide, you can start the visit of this remarkable town. Starting from outside the city walls, you walk in the pleasant center of the medieval town, surrounded by red brick walls, where there are unusual decorative Art Nouveau alternated to the typical medieval urban texture. In addition, to complete the visit, we recommend you make arrangements with your guide in order to add a visit to the Museum of sharecropping, to learn more about farm life from the distant past to the present; otherwise you can visit the Sacred Art Museum of the Val d’Arbia, which houses the works of the painting tradition of Sienese artists such as Duccio, Pietro Lorenzetti, Andrea di Bartolo, and Matteo di Giovanni, or decide to move and visit the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore.
