TOUR 18 – CHIUSI: In the maze of the Etruscan king

Chiusi enjoyed a golden age during the Etruscan and Roman age. Then the city experienced a period of abandonment and loss of importance when the surrounding countryside became an unhealthy swamp. As a result of the great archaeological discoveries of the nineteenth century, Chiusi returned to his rank and it is now a major tourist destination for all lovers of Etruscan history. Archaeologists are still searching for the tomb of the legendary Etruscan king Porsena, whom according to the legend was buried with a chariot drawn by four horses sculpture, a sarcophagus, a hen and countless chicks, all made of gold. The visit includes a stop at the Cathedral, near which there is the Cathedral Museum, which leads to the Labyrinth of Porsena, a network of underground tunnels carved into the tufa that ends in a cistern from the Roman period.
