Carnival of Viareggio
On 1, 9, 15, 20, 23, February 25 will be held the Carnival of Viareggio (LU), famous throughout the world.
The program of the Viareggio Carnival also this year will reserve many amusements with traditional masked courses and other events that will animate the carnival period.
The history of the Viareggio Carnival dates back to 1873. Since then the event has grown: the masked courses attract thousands of visitors who have fun on the streets in a playful and carefree atmosphere.
Carnival of Foiano
The 481st Carnival of Foiano della Chiana (AR) will be held on 2, 9, 16, 23 February and 1 March.
In Foiano della Chiana also this year the oldest Carnival in Italy will be celebrated, with a program full of events. Every Sunday the four allegorical floats that correspond to the city factions will parade. Masked courses will begin at 12:00 and will last until late afternoon.
The children will be protagonists of the Children’s Carnival: every Sunday they will parade together with the small allegorical floats and the playful animations. Do not miss, then, the cremation of “King Giocondo”, scheduled for Sunday 1 March at 19.
The origins of the Foiano Carnival date back to the 16th century. The first recent edition was held instead in the 1930s in memory of the ancient carnival celebrations.
Carnival of Follonica
The 51st edition of the traditional Carnival of Follonica (GR) will be held on 2, 9, 16, 23 February.
The program is full of events that will animate the city center. From the early afternoon on the Lungomare Carducci there will be parades of allegorical floats and masquerades on the ground, in an atmosphere of absolute celebration. Every Sunday a musical band will cheer the carnival moments, and at the end the best float and the best mask on the ground will be awarded.
Carnival of San Gimignano
The Carnival of San Gimignano (SI) will take place on Sundays in February: 2, 9, 16 and 23.
The program includes from 14:30 the parade in the streets of the historic center of allegorical floats that will show off the paper-mache caricatures created by local artists and will be accompanied by lots of music and typical Carnival masks.
A unique opportunity to have fun and admire the historic center declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Medieval Carnival of Calenzano
Sunday 23 February in Calenzano (FI) the Medieval Carnival will be held. From the early hours of the morning the historic center of the Tuscan village will be animated by a series of initiatives related to the carnival period and local traditions.
The streets will also be enlivened by the presence of markets dedicated to local crafts and delicacies of the period. At 14:00 the procession of costumed figures will start. Throughout the afternoon there will be themed games and a show that will precede the burning of King Carnival. Finally, the medieval tavern will offer the best dishes of the local tradition.
